West Berkshire Council was awarded £619,000 from the Department for Transport as part of the Emergency Active Travel Fund to improve cycling and walking in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Whilst you may have noticed some of the temporary pedestrian and cycling improvements in your area, the Council is working towards permanent improvements to make it safer, easier and more comfortable to get around. These include:

  • Maintaining and improving the condition of footways and pedestrian crossings
  • Facilitating safe and prioritised pedestrian access to key destinations
  • Improving the links between public rights of way and footways
  • Improving cycling facilities by connecting cycle paths to the local road networks
